Pre-Legislative Summit aims to unite region,  benefit businesses
Economist Dr. Ray Perryman, the President and CEO of the Perryman Group, an economic research and analysis firm based in Waco, will be the keynote speaker at the Greater Taylor Chamber of Commerce’s Pre-Legislative Summit on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Perryman has received citations from governments around the world, presidents, governors, Congress, and national and state administrative and legislative bodies. He has authored more than 3000 trade articles, writes a weekly syndicated newspaper column and appears regularly on National Public Radio.
“He is a great person to hear from right now,” Taylor Chamber President and CEO Tia Rae Stone said. “He is used to looking at the long game and, hopefully, will help us put our challenges and potential rewards in focus.”
The Summit will focus on artificial intelligence, workforce development, education, and energy and water resources.
The Chamber is recruiting specialists in those areas to serve as panelists during the discussion with the goal of uniting the region for advocacy for its unique needs. Currently expected are Gary Westbrook from the Post Oak Savannah GCD, Brooke Freeland from the United Way, Paul Fletcher of the Rural Capital Area Workforce Solutions, and Dr. Christina Ponce with Temple College.
“Taylor has a long history and rapid changes to our place known as ‘Texas City’ on the global stage has created unique needs and issues,” Stone said. “Getting together to learn and discuss these issues will help us reach out with a clear voice to our state and national leaders, many of whom are expected to have representatives at this Summit.”
The event will run 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Williamson County Exposition Center, 5350 Bill Pickett Drive in Taylor. Tickets and sponsorships are on sale now at www.taylorchamber.org.
